On Wednesday, the Quaker Valley Track & Field team traveled to Shenango High School for the MAC Invitational. This Invitational annually invites 28 schools in our area. In total we sent 42 athletes to represent our school, and I am very proud to announce that both the girls' and the boys' teams won the team competition for the second year in a row. We also set 5 total meet records and brought home 47 total medals, which are awarded to the top 6 athletes and relay teams in each event.
The 5 new meet records were set by the following relays and individuals:
The boys 4x800m relay team of Jonah Montagnese, Corben Hopkins, River Capek, and Jackson Pethel won a photo finish race by 0.01 seconds to set a new meet record with 8:06.62. The previous meet record was 8:10.80.
The girls 4x100m relay team of Evie Rosselli, Kwilai Karto, Vanessa Pickett, and Rose Pocasangre set a new meet record with a time 48.77. This time broke the previous meet record of 49.12 and is now 3rd all-time in QV history.
The boys 4x400m relay team of Jayden Juliano, River Capek, Kieran Cain, and James Irwin capped the meet with a meet record time of 3:26.25. The previous meet record was 3:26.36. This is also the 4th fastest 4x400m relay team in QV school history.
Jay Olawaiye also took first place and set a new meet record in girls triple with a jump of 37ft. 9in., breaking the previous meet record of 37ft. 8.75in.
Macky Gartley finished in first place in the 300m hurdles, also setting a new meet record with a time of 38.94. The previous meet record was 39.22. Macky's victory in the 110m hurdles and 5th place finish on the 4x100m relay also earned him the meet MVP award.
